Wan Sia graduated in 2002 with an honours degree in science, majoring in biochemistry, from the National University of Malaysia. She started out her career at a prominent Malaysian pharmaceutical company. She switched to the intellectual property (IP) industry and joined an established legal firm, handling trademark matters, before she found her true calling as a patent scientist at Henry Goh in 2009.

In 2011, Wan Sia completed her in-house training, sat for and passed the patent agent examinations. She is a registered Malaysian patent and industrial design agent. Since qualifying as a registered patent and design agent, she has practiced exclusively in the field of patents and industrial design law, with a focus on the drafting of patent specifications for various inventions, filing and prosecuting more than 1,000 domestic and foreign patent applications, conducting various types of patent-related searches, and rendering freedom-to-operate (FTO) and infringement opinions.

Wan Sia has handled numerous complex patent cases. She has broad experience and knowledge in advising clients on IP strategies and is adept at providing substantive technical arguments and opinions to overcome patentability objections. Her extensive knowledge and more than 15-year experience are coupled with an insatiable appetite for the latest developments in patent and design law.

As part of her ongoing responsibilities, she has completed comprehensive FTO searches and rendered FTO opinions in Malaysia and Singapore for a prominent multinational company in the field of industrial chemistry. She has also testified as a technical expert in Court. Her technical expertise provided invaluable insight and aided the Court’s understanding of the technology at issue.

Wan Sia was promoted to Senior Patent Agent in 2024.

She is conversant in both English and Chinese and actively participates in the firm’s business development activities including speaking at local and foreign IP seminars and participating in IP conferences.

Wan Sia is a member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA).
