LES Thailand hosted their first annual conference in Bangkok from 19-20 November 2015, having recently become the 33rd Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society International.

With the theme Strategies for Global IP Management and Licensing the conference brought together over 150 participants with an impressive array of speakers from Thailand and around the world, all in the convivial atmosphere of the Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit.

The topics discussed included IP management and commercialization from the perspectives of local industries, academic and research institutions, tax incentives, trade secrets, and IP licensing in the automotive industries. The conference concluded with a workshop on IP valuation.

Mr Dave A Wyatt, Head of Patent and Industrial Design in our Malaysia office joined a panel of three speakers on the second day that shared legislative and practice updates from Europe, Malaysia and Singapore respectively. Dave’s presentation naturally focused on Malaysia with a round-up of recent High Court decisions on IP ownership and licensing, and an overview of milestones in the development of the local IP scene.
