The Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) has recently announced substantive amendments to the Trade Marks Regulations 1997 and the Patents Regulations 1986.

Of particular interest to you are the provisions to expedite the examination of trade mark and patent applications. These amendments are a positive step towards enhancing the procedural aspects of trade mark and patent practice in Malaysia. Such a development is also a hopeful indication of the prospective amendments to the Trade Marks Act 1976 and the Patents Act 1983 this year.
