About Ally Leong
Ally’s journey in academia began in 2013 when she embarked on her undergraduate studies at the prestigious University of Malaya. Four years later, in 2017, she proudly graduated with an honors degree in science, specializing in Biochemistry. In the same year as her graduation, Ally found her perfect fit at Henry Goh, joining the company as a patent scientist. She utilizes her analytical skills and scientific background to assist clients in protecting their innovative ideas and inventions.
Driven by a desire to share knowledge and inspire young minds, Ally had been a primary school substitute teacher and a tuition teacher.
Her undergraduate final year project was focused on the antioxidant activity of Mentha spicata L. incorporated in functional food. During the course of graduation, she completed her industrial training in a medical centre as a medical laboratory technician. Her hands-on experience as a medical laboratory technician further enriched her understanding of practical applications.
Ally is proficient in both spoken and written Chinese. Growing up in a multicultural environment, Ally was exposed to diverse languages and cultures from a young age. This linguistic prowess has proven invaluable in her career, enabling her to effectively communicate with Chinese-speaking clients both locally and internationally. Ally’s linguistic abilities also extend to her role as a translator, where she assists in translating Chinese content for social media posts and materials for seminars and presentations.
Ally diligently completed her in-house training and sat for the Malaysian Patent Agent Examination in 2019. Ally earned the title of registered patent agent in 2020 and became a registered industrial design agent in 2021. Since then, she has been contributing her expertise to various aspects of patent and design law, for example, handling formalities and prosecution of Malaysian patent and design applications, advising clients on patent and design protection, conducting pre-filing novelty, freedom-to-operate, and landscape searches, and drafting patent specifications. Her patent drafting experience includes inventions in the fields of furniture drawer systems, medical protection devices, tissue engineering, and recombinant gene technology. In addition to Malaysian patent applications, Ally has been handling formalities and prosecution of foreign patent applications before the patent offices of Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Philippines, Thailand, and the United States of America.
Apart from patent and design matters, Ally’s work also involves advising clients on plant variety protection, and assisting them on filing Malaysian plant variety applications with the Plant Variety Protection Registration Office – Crop Quality Control Division (PVPRO) of the Department of Agriculture.
