Shu Wen graduated in 2010 with an honors degree in Bachelor of Commerce from the Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom. She joined the firm in 2011 as a Trademark Executive and has since become one of the department’s long-serving and valuable staff.

As part of her IP career progression, Shu Wen sat for the Malaysian Trademark Agent Examination in 2021 and is now a  Registered Trademark Agent. In recognition of her contributions to the firm, she was promoted as Senior Trademark Executive in 2022.

Shu Wen’s professional responsibilities encompass the overall handling of trademark portfolios, with an emphasis on serving clients from Europe. Her expertise includes providing strong backbone support to our legal counsel on various trademark prosecution matters such as attending to enquiries, conducting searches, assessing and reporting office actions, preparing submissions in response to objections raised by the Malaysian Intellectual Property Office (MyIPO), attending hearings before examiners and assisting in opposition matters. She also leads a small team in handling renewal and trademark transactions.

Since Malaysia acceded to the Madrid Protocol, Shu Wen regularly advises and assists foreign clients in attending to the Provisional Refusals raised against their International Registrations designating Malaysia. As an astute trademark agent and problem solver, she is able to meet clients’ needs through offering high-level advice and providing effective solutions. She also has experience in filing copyright notifications and geographical indication applications in Malaysia.

Shu Wen is well-versed with MyIPO’s online filing system and constantly in touch with the examiners to ensure a smooth process of each client’s trademark applications. Her steady well of knowledge puts her in a good position when handling clients from different industries.

When on a break from work, Shu Wen enjoys globetrotting to expand her horizons and life experience, consistent with the global outlook of the IP field.
