Rocking for a Cause: Henry Goh Sponsors Table at ESG’s Charity Gala
The Firm was represented by Ms. Joanne Wong (Executive Director), Ms. Lee Suet Yin (Trademark Team Leader) and Ms. Margareat Hippolyte (retired staff).
As background information regarding the event, ESG is the abbreviated name of Exercise Support Group, which is a non-profitable group formed voluntarily by a group of dedicated and passionate medical practitioners from UMMC back in 2014. This group’s objective was to raise staff’s awareness of maintaining good healthy lifestyle and was limited to UMMC’s staff only. The formation of the Group came about after there were findings showing some staff were suffering from physical and mental stress at that time. The activities conducted include exercise sessions every Saturday morning, knowledge sharing talks and simple physiotherapy lessons, which were provided by the in-house doctors and nurses from UMMC.
Since the results were encouraging and have successfully helped a lot of UMMC staff regain their heath, ESG subsequently opened its membership to hospital patients and members of public. Margareat has benefitted from the group having been a breast cancer survivor and an ex-patient of UMMC. Her story echoes a lot of other non-staff members of the Group.
As the group was started on a voluntary basis, there were no proper funds allocations for their activities, especially in the early days. Over the past 10 years, ESG has grown larger. Apart from the internal support, private companies and individuals from the member of public and cancer survivors joined forces by giving sponsorship or donation in the form of food or monetary so that ESG’s activities can continue.
The theme of the charity dinner was “Rock with Elvis”. Guests dressed up in retro style and a handful of gentlemen dressed up as Elvis Presley. Prof. Dr. Mohd Nahar Azmi, the host and the prime mover of ESG, was the star of the night with his impersonation of the late music legend. He wowed the audience with his singing and dancing together with group performances from other ESG members.
The dinner ended with another round of donation by the attending guests where all contributions will be used as funding for ESG’s future events.
Henry Goh is proud to have the opportunity to support such a meaningful event that resonates with our corporate social responsibility in giving back to the society.
