The Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) has given us advance notice of the first-ever amendment to the Industrial Designs Regulations 1999, which is currently pending approval by the Attorney General’s Chambers.

The Industrial Designs Regulations (Amendment 2012) will result in:

1. an upward revision in the prescribed official fees across the board,
2. procedural changes, and
3. introduction of electronic filing of industrial design applications

MyIPO has advised that the Amendment 2012 will apply to new applications filed on or after the effective date of the Amendment, and on all matters or proceedings pertaining to registered industrial designs. All applications which are pending at that time will be subject to the present regulations.
